What Does Glass Works Include?
Everything where the glass itself is the product rather than the infill: shower enclosures, balustrades, office partitions, mirrors, facade glazing and shopfronts. We cut and process to your sizes and fit it ourselves, and because the aluminium side comes out of the same workshop, the frame and the pane get set out together instead of being ordered separately and reconciled on site.

View→Toughened, Laminated, Low-E — Which One and Why
Heat-treated to be several times stronger than ordinary annealed glass, and it breaks into small blunt granules instead of blades. The baseline for doors, low-level glazing, shower screens and partitions. Once toughened, it cannot be cut or drilled — every hole is set out first.
Two panes bonded to an interlayer. Stays in one piece when broken, cuts noise noticeably and blocks most UV. It is the correct answer for balustrades over a drop, and worth it on any road-facing elevation.
A metallic coating so thin you cannot see it, reflecting long-wave heat back out while letting daylight through. In this climate it does more work than the air gap does.
Gym and wardrobe mirrors, frosted and satin finishes, and manifestation for partitions — the eye-level marking that stops people walking into clean glass.
The Four Glass Problems We See Most
Hard water staining on shower glass
Water dries on the pane and leaves its minerals behind, and over years those deposits etch into the surface. Once it has gone that far, cleaning will not fully reverse it. A squeegee does more over ten years than any product on a shelf.
Corroded railing hardware
The glass does not corrode — the clamps, spigots and hinges do, especially in coastal air and humidity. Grade of stainless and keeping dissimilar metals apart both matter here.
Cracked or chipped panels
These need a like-for-like safety-glass replacement, not whatever pane happens to fit. Toughened and laminated are not interchangeable, particularly on a barrier.
Cloudy or delaminating balustrades
Milky patches or a hazy edge on older laminated glass mean the interlayer has started to break down. That is a structural signal on a barrier, not a cosmetic one.

Generally yes. Frameless uses thicker toughened glass and more precise hardware, and it is less forgiving of walls that are not plumb. Framed enclosures use thinner glass carried by a frame, cost less and cope better with an imperfect wall. Full detail on the shower glass page.
02What glass do balustrades need?
For a barrier protecting a drop, laminated — the interlayer holds the broken panes together so the panel keeps working as a barrier. Heat soak testing is also worth specifying, because it removes most of the risk of spontaneous breakage from nickel sulphide inclusions. See glass railings.
03Can you replace one broken pane rather than the whole thing?
Usually yes, provided we can match the specification — thickness, toughened or laminated, and any coating. A like-for-like replacement matters more than it sounds, especially on a barrier or a door.
04Does glass type really matter in this climate?
Yes. Solar heat gain is the bigger issue here rather than conducted heat, so a low-E coating usually does more for comfort than an extra pane on its own. On a west elevation it is the difference between a usable room and an oven.
05Will the hardware corrode near the sea?
Stainless steel is corrosion resistant, not corrosion proof, and coastal air is aggressive. The grade, the detailing and avoiding contact between dissimilar metals all matter. Tell us if your project is on or near the water so it gets specified for that.
06Do you supply glass only, or fit as well?
Both, but we would rather fit what we supply — particularly on frameless work, where the setting-out and the fixing are most of the job. Our own team installs.
